How to activate Xbox Night Mode and what it is for

In one of the recent updates, Microsoft allows us to activate the night mode on the Xbox;  Which becomes very useful for taking care of our eyesight when we play in a dark place or with little light.  An ideal choice if we are sensitive to bright light or have another type of vision problem.

  Why this?

This mode was added to Xbox Series X/S consoles and to the original Xbox One lineup after the October 2021 update. We won't see the option until we update the console.

When the mode is enabled, we can automatically dim the screen and even filter out the blue light.  HDR can also be enabled or disabled when night mode is activated, because this mode is generally very bright in dark environments.

It also makes tweaks to one of the most annoying aspects: the white lights of the Xbox logo on the console and console.

How to turn on or enable Xbox Night Mode

Remember that the console must be updated for this mode to appear.  Once updated, we will find the mode in the Settings menu.  We will click on the Xbox button and then go to the “Profile and System” tab, and from here we start the settings.

Now we go to General > TV and Display options and we will choose Night mode.  In the drop-down box, we will choose this mode to decide whether to activate, deactivate or schedule it.  If we leave this setting active all the time, the Xbox will always try to keep the environment dark.

If we select to schedule it, we can select the "Change at sunrise and sunset" option, and the console will use internet time to decide when to switch between standard mode and night mode.

On the left side we can adjust the settings, including how much the screen will dim and how much blue light is to be filtered, in the case of HDR we will have to configure "Allow" to leave HDR on or off.

Obviously, each of these apps can be completely disabled.  So if all we want is for this mode to simply dim the console light or if we want to disable blue light filtering, we have the options to configure everything the way that works for us.

What does Xbox night mode affect?

This mode affects not only the Xbox Home screen, but also various games and applications.  This means that if we decide to disable HDR or screen dimming, the games will be affected.  This mode will not affect the screenshots nor the clips we record.
